It's not just the newbies that quit - I read the other day that 'fake Steve Jobs' is throwing in the towel, because his best month brought in just over $1k in revenue. So after just 2 years, he's giving up.
http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/159390/blogging_is_dead.html
(Ironically, the newsweek article announcing it ended in 3 digits that many probably associate with Apple's rival!)
http://www.newsweek.com/id/183666

We had the same thing a few years back with ezines. People thought it was easy money, dabbled, got disillusioned and left. The ones that were left got better at it, and now the industry is left to them. Try starting up an ezine these days and you've got an uphill battle against entrenched competition.

So, to all of you that think blogging is dead and want to head off somewhere to commiserate, feel free. I'll still be blogging, and a few years down the track when there are key personalities dominating every blog niche online, I intend to be one of them!

Holly, this is a fantastic piece; I think that the Internet has many feeling that they can get into a business and instantly become overnight success making 6 figure incomes. I have seen people join like tonite and by tomorrow morning they quite.

Ha, cool. I guess the weirdest excuse I ever heard was, "my girlfriend won't let me out of bed anymore, so I just don't have time". LOL... Pretty funny I guess. Had some that didn't do anything. But, that's probably the weirdest. Sweebit
