Backlinks to your site can come from a number of different sources. Without question backlinks are necessary and should absolutely be included in your marketing plan. So let’s first answer a few questions:
What are backlinks?
Backlinks are incoming links to a website or web page. The number of backlinks is only one indication of the popularity or importance of your website or page. See Wikipedia for a more in depth definition of backlinks.
Backlinks are links that do NOT originate from your site. They are links that originate from other popular sites. The more backlinks you have from “authority” sites the higher your search engine ranking.
How do I get backlinks?
Directories
Forums
Ezine Article sites
Press Release sites
Other blogs/websites
We have touched on some of these in previous posts; let’s re-cap.
Directories—again I will defer to Wiki to explain:
A web directory or link directory is a directory on the World Wide Web. It specializes in linking to other web sites and categorizing those links.
Directories are NOT search engines. They are sites that may list categories like business, arts, travel, etc. If you have a travel website you would want to look for some directories with a Google page rank of 6 or higher and submit your site to that directory.
In my personal opinion Directory submissions should be done manually not with automated software.

Are you social bookmarking your sites? Better yet, are you and a group of your marketing friends socially bookmarking each others sites?
Most folks will put random descriptions when they are digging their sites/blog posts or submitting them to social bookmarking directories. You should NOT do this. These should be well-thought out descriptions utilizing keywords in both the title and description of your blog/website.
Take 15 mins a day and bookmark your sites or share this task with a friend and agree to swap sites.

Creating classified ads is another great way to drive traffic to your website. Do not make the mistake some marketers to and post “Help Wanted” ads. In our opinion it is misleading and “spammy”.
If you’re looking to post some ads be honest about what you are promoting. We do recommend that you use graphics/pictures. Now that being said craigslist ads and/or USFreeads that are text-based will get picked up by google; however ads with graphics may get more clicks.
Bottom line!!! Online Classifieds work!
So you’ll need to decide what is more important to you. In my next post I’ll talk about a strategy for using USFreeAds and your blog to make affiliate money.

Another important marketing strategy is Press Release submission.
What are some of the things you can write a Press Release about?
- A new member joins your team
- A new training course
- An event that you or your company is having
- An announcement from your company about specials or compensation enhancements
It doesn’t matter; you should be using Press Releases in your marketing campaigns.
You can use the free Press Release options; however, there are times when paying for a Press Release is key in your marketing efforts. We use Free Press Release for the majority of our press releases.

Search engine submission should be part of your marketing campaign.
Do not be fooled by those automatic search engine submission packages. You should not use spam techniques to submit your site.
To be affective this should be done as a manual process.
Yes, you can do this yourself but why would you want to. Are you going to spend your valuable time submitting your sites to the search engines? By doing this you are discounting the value of your time.
